Ethekwini Cold Stores is in the process of completing a R20 million expansion of our forced air cooling and inspection facilities to cater for increased demand for handling Cold Treatment programs for Special Markets, as well as a general upgrade of our refrigeration equipment to cater for increased throughput as a result of lower dwell times and higher volumes. This expansion will almost double our capacity, and includes a new wireless pulp temperature monitoring system and a second inspection room for DAFF inspections.
This expansion and upgrade confirms our ongoing commitment to provide our clients with the facilities and service expected in an evolving market.

We completed a R10 million upgrade to our mobile racking system in 2015 that included conversion of all standard pallet positions to accommodate hi-cube pallets. This project also included new low-energy lighting in all general holding rooms and new handling equipment to handle the increased weights and higher pallet positions. The focus was to evolve with market demands for more container shipments, to improve operational efficiencies and to reduce downtime.
We also implemented a new IT Warehouse Management System (WMS). As part of our commitment to service excellence, we consistently improve our warehouse management system each year through ongoing research and development of procedures that maximise work flow and efficiencies.
